Sound

1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:
  • Diegetic and non-diegetic sound
  • Parallel and contrapuntal sound
  • Sound bridges
Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip:
  • Music
  • Dialogue
  • Voiceover
  • Sound effects
You also need to highlight or put in bold any use of media language.

This a scene from the movie 'Election' (1999) and it uses non-diegetic sound. When she walks away, a voice over is added on top meaning that the actors cant hear whats going on. The music is also non-diegetic because it plays at the same time as her voice over. There is a sound bridge between the music and her voice as the scenes keeps changing but the music stays the same. I think the music is contrapuntal because as she is speaking, she sounds angry at the people she's talking about and there's classical music playing at the same time. Although it could be parallel too because as she gets angrier the music gets louder and they both compliment each other.
